What's Going On Lately

I'm up early this morning and it's not because my baby is awake. Yesterday was a stressful day and I have a lot on my mind. Two things I googled this morning: how to clean up fire extinguisher powder and stress and milk supply.
First, we had a mini fire in our apartment yesterday. The fan in the bathroom melted and caught on fire. I got Logan out of the house and used the fire extinguisher to get it out. The fire didn't do any damage (besides the fan) but the residue has been horrible to clean up. Our house is being ventilated and I spent all last night cleaning every corner with soapy water. The bathroom has no windows so its made it even worse. I feel like my lungs have inhaled all this gunk, but I worry most for Logan. We'll be spending lots of time outside today.
Second, I have been worrying about my milk supply for the last month, and my suspisions were confirmed yesterday at Logan's 4 month appointment. It's not that he's starving, but his weight has gone done from the 90% to the 50%th. It's enough to bring him back in a month to make sure the trend stops. My pediatrician recommended a formula supplement once a day so he can get extra calories. I'm kinda freaking out about this. I really wanted to breastfeed exclusively for the first 6 months and if I was to give him anything additional, it would be rice cereal. I have a breast pump and I use it 1-2 times a day. Everytime I pump I only get 1-2 oz. So, I think I'll use Similac and see how it goes. It still makes me sad.
One thing that makes me smile is this: my sweet little Logan is 4 months old!
We had a little photoshoot on Monday to celebrate the occasion. Stats:
Weight: 14 lbs 8 oz - 50%
Length: 26 3/4 inches - 95%
Head Circumference: 16 3/4 inches - 60%

Enjoys:
Talking to Mommy and Daddy
Drooling
Walks in his stroller
Being held
Playing "5 Little Monkeys"
Being read to (Very Hungry Catepillar is a favorite)
Kicking his legs
Sleeping on his tummy
Eating
Touching people's faces
Being outside
Bathtime
Watching movies on TV (especially puppets)

Nicknames:
Buddars
Loganator
Lo Lo
Sweetness
Handsome
Stinker-pot
Logi-Bear

He is such a blessing in my life. I love this kid.

Oh, he's cute! I hope things go well with his growing . . . that's kind of scary about the fire! Way to keep your head on straight - but I'm sorry about the cleanup!

That would be scary! I'm glad everything is okay. And as far as the milk supply goes. Try not to worry too much. I really struggled with feeding my babies after they got about 5 months old because my milk supply just wasn't producing enough. I felt bad at first because I couldn't give my kids "the best" but then the best thing for the babies is just that they are getting enough food. Plenty of babies have to be fed exclusively from formula and they are stronger and bigger and healthier than some who are exclusively breatfed. Sometimes moms will refuse to formula feed their babies because they think it is bad for the baby so instead the moms will only feed them breastmilk and the kids just aren't growing like they should. Johns sister breastfed her oldest little girl and literally her little girl was starving to death because their was no nutrient in her milk. It was hard on both of them until they figured it out and started her on some formula. Don't worry about it too much. Logan will be perfectly fine. Sometimes "Breast isn't always best." Lots of food is best!

Good luck.

Hey Amamnda... no worries. You're doing fine. I also wanted to let you know you can get a herbal vitamin thing from health food store called funugreek... I'm totally not a speller so I spelled it the way it sounds :). Anyway it helps increase your milk supply... it's all natural so it won't harm Logan in any way... my sister used it and swears by it.

I am not sure if you want advice or not..but here it is anyway...I was also having a hard time keeping up with milk production so they say to just keep pumping additionally to make your body think the baby wants more food. That helped me. I also tried MOTHER's MILK you can get at Fred Meyer and it is all natural, really gross, but does no harm and that helped a little as well. I try to pump in the morning as much as I can extra which is when I have the most milk. I am like you and only wanted breast milk for as long as I possibly can..so good luck and I am glad everything is okay. Logan is a doll.
